DATE: Victorian, c.1900

A beautiful Swiss pocket watch featuring a gem set swallow with olive branch on the front case within a wonderfully chased orange blossom border. The bird is studded with rose cut diamonds, and the two olives are set with a ruby and a diamond. It's crafted in 14 karat gold, with simple, elegant numerals on the white watch face, and ornate openworked hands. The Swiss hallmarks (two squirrels) indicate it was produced for export and the accompanying German Imperial Crown indicates the intended destination (although that doesn't necessarily mean it ended up there). It dates from the turn of the 20th century, circa 1900.
